The Entrepreneurs' Organization, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz Financial, will host the Washington DC Regional Finals of the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) at the office of Dickstein Shapiro LLP on 2 May 2007. The GSEA honors the top campus CEOs -- full-time students that own and run their own companies.
Andrew Sherman, a partner in Dickstein Shapiro and recognized by Fortune Small Business as one of America's "Top Ten Entrepreneurial Minds" says, "We are excited about this program to recognize DC area students who take the step to start their own companies early and are able to balance school and growing a company. We are proud to host this competition."
Last year's overall GSEA winner was Michael Brown, owner of ModBargains.com -- which provides aftermarket auto parts for high-end vehicles. Brown, a graduate of Chapman University, has seen tremendous growth since competing in the GSEA -- with sales approaching US $1 million annually. Brown says, "Through my affiliation with the GSEA program I have been able to connect with the Entrepreneurs' Organization and find excellent mentors such as Matt Stewart of National Services Group and Michael Caito of Restaurants on the Run."
This year's GSEA program has over 450 nominations. Erik MacKinnon, manager of the GSEA program, says "This is our highest number of nominees of any year to date. We expect to finish this year with nearly 1000 nominations from the USA, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Canada, China, Mexico, Spain, Malaysia, Japan, Australia and more."
Nominees from the DC area come from the University of Maryland, Georgetown and other area schools. Nominees include Chris Wu, owner of The Smith Store and a student at University of Maryland. The Smith Store is an on-campus business that specializes in promotional branded product procurement and retail sales.
The DC Regional winners are competing for cash, prizes and the chance to represent the region at the GSEA Global Finals, which take place 1-3 November 2007 in Chicago. The Regional Winner will have a chance to compete for over $100,000 in cash, business services, and mentorship from the Entrepreneurs' Organization.
